Outlaw among four killed in Lakki Marwat police encounter

LAKKI MARWAT: The ringleader of notorious Inam Group, Inam Marwat, his two accomplices and a woman were killed in a joint operation conducted by Lakki Marwat and Tank police at Paharkhel village in the limits of Ghaznikhel Police Station on Tuesday.

Briefing the media persons at his office on Tuesday, DPO Qasim Ali Khan said that Lakki Marwat and Tank police launched a joint operation at 9:30pm. The police party, he said, raided the hideout of the criminals in Ghra Paharkhel village where an exchange of fire took place that continued till 5:30am. The official said that the DPOs of both the districts supervised the operation and was backed by the Armoured Personnel Carrier (APC) and heavy police contingents of both the districts.

He said that the outlaws opened fire on the police with sophisticated arms and hurled three hand-grenades in which Deputy Superintendent of Police, Khalid Mahmood, and Head Constable Ahmad Nawaz sustained injuries. The DPO said that the outlaws killed in the action included Inam Marwat, Mursalin alias Babu, Balqayaz Khan and his sister were killed. He claimed that the notorious gang led by Inam Marwat had killed 12 innocent people in Amakhel village in Tank district last year. He said that the ringleader was wanted to the police in 42 heinous cases of murder, attempted murder, robberies, kidnapping for ransom and extortion since 2015. To a question, the DPO said that the ringleader carried Rs1 million head-money, adding, the police participated in the operation would be rewarded. He said that the police received appreciations from the public, provincial police chief, armed forces and regional police officer. The official said the area was in the jurisdiction of the Ghaznikhel Police Station but the police from Mullazai, Tank, also took part in the operation as the gang actually belonged to Tank district and had been hiding in the remote mountainous Paharkhel situated on the boundary of Tank-Lakki Marwat districts.
