Munir leads as CAS Open Golf tees off

KARACHI: Muhammad Munir led the points table on the opening day of 39th Chief of The Air Staff Open Golf Championship here at the Airmen Golf Course and Recreational Park, PAF Base Korangi Creek on Thursday.

Munir had clear lead as he scored 69 (3 under par) on the first day. Trailing behind him was Ahmed Baig, who finished the round at 70 (2 under par). Muhammad Nazir played par and was in third place on the scoreboard. Defending champion Muhammad Shabbir Iqbal was in fourth position with 73 (1 over par) along with Muhammad Ashfaq, Talat Ejaz and Muhammad Alamgir.

The opening day had a wonderful turn when Shahbaz Masih scored a hole-in-one to claim a brand new Toyota Avanza. Although the playing conditions were ideal, golfers still faced difficulties in dealing with the tricky greens of the course.

The 39th edition of the biggest golf tournament of the country will see over 100 professional golfers in action in the ever-flowing breeze across the lush green fairways. The championship, offering a prize money of Rs8.2 million, will be played over 18 holes for four days at one of the most difficult golf courses of the country.

The event will also have matches in the categories of Professionals, Senior/Junior Professionals, Amateurs, Airmen Golf Club Members, Ladies, Veterans and Invitees.
