SWABI: The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) have issued show-cause notices to their tehsil councillors, who allegedly switched their loyalty at the eleventh hour, which resulted in formation of Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf government in tehsil Chota Lahor.
Shahab Khan, who was elected as tehsil naib nazim was the JUI-F councillor and Noor Jehan, who returned on the women reserved seat in Chota Lahor tehsil council on PML-N ticket, had voted for PTI’s Sohail Khan Tordher, who was elected as tehsil nazim and Shahab Khan became his deputy.
It may be recalled that the PTI had eight seats in the 18-member tehsil council in Chota Lahor while the seven-party alliance, Swabi Democratic Alliance, won 10 seats in the May 30 local government elections.
However, JUI-F councillor Shahab Khan, who was elected from Chota Lahor tehsil, switched his loyalty and joined the PTI. It equaled the number of seats of the PTI and the Swabi Democratic Alliance in the tehsil council.
PML-N district president Iftikhar Ahmad Khan said that both the councillors violated democratic principles so their respective party leadership would approach the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) to get them de-seated.
The PML-N has served a show-cause notice on Noor Jehan. She was told to reply within three days. After her reply the complete proof along with her reply would be sent to ECP under local government rules.
When contacted, PML-N central leader Liaqat Ahmad Khan said that keeping in view the rules, Noor Jehan would be disqualified. The JUI-F has also issued a show-cause notice to Shahab Khan.
