Traffic rule violators to be arrested in drive starting on Friday
The Karachi Traffic Police have announced new sanctions against traffic law offenders, especially over one-way violations, and action will begin on Friday.
As per the revised orders, traffic police teams will be deployed at 100 locations for strict action against traffic rules’ violators between 3pm and 6pm. Sources informed The News on Tuesday that the traffic police would also be assisted by the police station for the purpose.
Motorcyclists, car drivers and other vehicle drivers will be arrested and booked for negligence under Section 279.
Speaking to The News, Karachi police chief Ghulam Nabi Memon said that at least a hundred cases had been lodged over violations of the one-way rule, as such violations resulted in tragic road accidents and deaths.
He said many campaigns were launched over the years, but the one starting on January 17 would be of severe consequences. The Karachi police chief added that the DIG Traffic, SP traffic, SDPOs, section officers, SHOs and other related officials had been given directives in this regard, and police officers would be monitoring the campaign actively in which legal proceedings would be imposed against those arrested for traffic violations.
The authorities have been directed to take action without any discrimination and those arrested must not be released at any condition. The offenders will be brought to court the next day.
Through consultation, DIG Traffic Javed Mehar and the SPs Traffic would schedule the time and duration of the campaign for the respective localities, Memon said and appealed to the citizens to follow the traffic rules and refrain from violating the one-way rule in central areas.
