New KMC administrator takes charge

The newly-appointed administrator of the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC), Sajjad Hussain Abbasi, took charge of his office on Saturday and presided over a meeting with the heads of different departments of the municipal organisation at the Civic Centre.
The Sindh government issued a notification on Friday for the appointment of Abbasi as the KMC Administrator, relieving Commissioner Shoaib Ahmed Siddiqui who had been looking after it on additional basis.
Abbasi was also handed over the additional charge of the managing director of Karachi Water and Sewerage Board, relieving Hashim Raza Zaidi who is the secretary to provincial ombudsman.
Abbasi earlier served as the KWSB’s managing director from March 2010 to June 2011.
The new administrator has prior experience with the working of the chief municipal body of the city since he has served as metropolitan commissioner.
He had been serving as the secretary of agriculture department before he was appointed as the KMC chief.
Speaking to the media on the occasion, Abbasi said he would like to continue with the good policies introduced by Commissioner Shoaib Ahmed Siddiqui during his almost month-long stint as the KMC chief.
Meanwhile, during his meeting with the departmental heads, he directed the officials to take measures for increasing the revenues earned by the metropolitan corporation. “A proper and dedicated team will allow us to achieve our revenue targets. There would be a process of accountability for everyone and negligence will not be tolerated at all,” he said. “All development projects should be completed on time and special attention should be given to projects related to the cleaning of storm water drains.”
