Sindh Local Government Minister Syed Nasir Hussain Shah has said the Karachi Water & Sewerage Board (KWSB) is not just going to supply water to the rural parts of Karachi but will also be responsible for providing sewerage disposal services under its regular network for the inhabitants of these areas.

Talking to newsmen on Friday, he said the KWSB would take over all schemes related to the water supply and sewage disposal services for the rural parts of the city, which had been hitherto under the control of the District Council of Karachi and the Public Health Engineering Department of the Sindh government.

The provincial minister said the KWSB decision would be in accordance with the aspirations of hundreds of thousands of residents of the rural parts of Karachi, who had long been demanding that water and sewerage services should be modernised.

He said the latest decision of the water utility would go a long way in modernising civic services being provided to the dwellers of rural parts and also would be helpful in resolving sanitation issues of those areas.

Shah added that this move would also be helpful to increase the income of the KWSB as the number of its consumers would increase manifold, these new customers belonged to rural areas where the water board had already been providing a bulk supply of water.

He said the KWSB, after the decision of its board, would in the coming three days appoint proper officials and staff to provide regular water supply and sewerage services to the rural suburbs.

He expressed the hope that the system of providing civic services to the rural areas of the city would be upgraded and the standard of life of their dwellers would be improved and made at par with the residents of the rest of Karachi.
