THE Punjab Emergency Service in collaboration with the UNICEF and School Education Department Punjab organised a two-day consultative workshop for development of “Manual for Community Based Disaster Risk Reduction (CBDRR)” with a focus on establishing safer communities in Pakistan.
The session was inaugurated by Director Punjab Emergency Service (Rescue 1122) Brig. Dr. Arshad Zia; Secretary School Education Department and UNICEF educational specialist Ms. Rubina Nadeem. The workshop was attended by different divisional/ district emergency officers; educationists, members from Provincial Disaster Management Authority, Civil Defence, Directorate of Staff Development, PRCS, Literacy and Non-Formal Basic Education Department, Pakistan Girls Guides and Boys Scouts Associations of Pakistan and multiple NGOs of Pakistan.
Addressing the concluding ceremony, Director Punjab Emergency Service (Rescue 1122) Brig. (r) Dr. Arshad Zia said the Punjab Emergency Service had been imparting training of emergency management and safety promotion to educational institutions since its inception. He further said the Service was also establishing Community Emergency Response Teams for development of safer communities and provision of emergency cover to schools.
“This joint venture by Rescue 1122, UNICEF and School Education Department would prove a milestone for changing public minds regarding the promotion of safety in our educational institutions,” he said adding the Rescue 1122 had imparted basic life safety skills and trainings among over 42,000 citizens of Punjab including students, volunteers and industrialists.
