PROVINCIAL Minister for Forests, Wildlife and Fisheries Malik Muhammad Asif Bha Awan has directed the officers of the department to further accelerate monsoon tree plantation campaign and a target for plantation of 90,000 saplings should be achieved before December 31 at every cost.
He said this while presiding over a meeting regarding the Monsoon Tree Plantation Campaign-2015 at his office on Friday. Senior officials of the Forest Department were also present. The minister said that every citizen would have to play his role to overcome the increasing environmental pollution and try to supplement government's efforts.
Malik Muhammad Asif Bha Awan was told that 642,000 saplings had been planted so far during the current monsoon tree plantation campaign started from the second week of August 2015. He was further told that 3750,000 saplings would be planted in the government forests whereas 222,000 saplings had already been planted.
Besides, the Forest Department has set a target of plantation of 600,000 saplings on the land of government offices whereas 7,000 saplings have been planted so far. The defence institutions had planned to plant 400,000 saplings out of which 164,000 saplings had been planted so far. A target of plantation of 4290,000 saplings has been fixed for private land and institutions whereas 249,000 saplings had so far been planted.
The minister said that abundant stock of saplings was available at 191 nurseries of the Punjab Forest Department throughout the province which could be got at cheaper rate by contacting the concerned divisional forest officer.
