Google Doodle tributes Iqbal Bano
ISLAMABAD: Keeping up the tradition of celebrating celebrities, Google Doodle honoured acclaimed Pakistani singer Iqbal Bano on Saturday.
Google, the world’s top search engine, shared an illustration paying tribute to the singer on her 81st birth anniversary.The legendary singer was known for her semi-classical Urdu ‘ghazals’, songs and classical ‘thumris’. She also sang easy-listening numbers in 1950s films.
The renowned singer is also known for her defiant performance of protest poetry by Faiz Ahmed Faiz. She did playback singing for Pakistani films and sang scores of ‘ghazals’.She was awarded ‘Tamgha-i-Imtiaz’ (Pride of Performance) medal in 1974. Iqbal Bano died on April 21, 2009, after a brief illness at 74.
This is not the first time that Google has featured a doodle for any Pakistani event.On August 14, it dedicated its doodle to celebrate Pakistan’s Independence Day.
The search engine has celebrated the birthdays of legendary musician Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan, philanthropist Abdul Sattar Edhi, ‘ghazal’ maestro Mehdi Hassan and pop singer Nazia Hasan with its doodle.Also, it paid rich tribute to Pakistan’s prolific artist Syed Sadequain Ahmed Naqvi with doodle on his 87th birthday in 2017.
