Former IG Zulfiqar Cheema’s book ‘Straight Talk’ launched

Islamabad : The speakers at the launching of former Inspector General of Police, Zulfiqar Cheema's book ‘Straight Talk’ expressed the view that for the solidarity and prosperity of the country, all institutions should work within their constitutional limits. They said that there is a dire need for a grand dialogue between political, judicial and military leadership.

The speakers were of the view that the author has not only identified the maladies but has suggested the remedies also.

The speakers highlighted some important articles, regarding rule of law, governance, independence of civil administration and the need to have a new charter of Pakistan.

The speakers also praised the quality of humour and satire in some of the articles.

Former chairman senate Waseem Sajjad said that Cheema never compromised his honour and dignity yet he achieved the highest rank. This should be a lesson for the young civil servants. He said the author's book carries many valuable guideline for the youth, the politicians and the institutions. He said the book has variety of subjects and very interesting to read.

Former speaker of National Assembly Ayaz Sadiq said that brilliant persons like the author should come forward to evolve a consensus amongst different segments of society. He said the author is respected because he always resisted unlawful orders of the rulers.

Former Chief Justice Islamabad High Court Sardar Muhammad Aslam said that the author's entire family and other two brothers are also men of integrity. They have got the training and strength from their mother. The article about the late mother must be read by all children.

Former foreign secretary Jalil Abbas Jilani said; Truth is the major trait of this book. The author is a person of integrity and he has always maintained that. He said, the author has beautifully indentified problems of governess, accountability, democracy and civil-military relationship, and given doable solutions.

Former Secretary Defence Lt Gen (r) Naeem Khalid Lodhi said that Cheema's book is a beacon of light in darkness.

Former Ambassador Abdul Basit said that book's article about the mother is a classical and his writing about the new charter of Pakistan is the need of the hour.

Former I.G, chairman PEMRA Kamal-ud-din Tipu said that. Cheema has always been a bold officer who has taken new initiatives and brought tremendous improvements in different institutions. The ceremony was attended by large number of people from different walks of life.
