To bid farewell to Ambassador of Italy Adriano Chiodi Cianfarani and to welcome the Ambassadors of Holy See Apostolic Nunciature, Ghaleb Bader; the Federative Republic of Brazil, Claudio Lins, and the Federal Republic of Germany, Ina Lepel, the ambassador of Argentina Rodolfo Martin-Saravia hosted a formal dinner at his residence.
The dinner was attended by Chairman Senate, Senator Raza Rabbani, Advisor to Prime Minister on National Security with Additional Responsibility of Foreign Affairs Sartaj Aziz, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Tariq Fatemi and Zahra Fatemi, Minister of State for Information Technology and Telecommunication Anusha Rahman, Senator Sherry Rehman, Senator Saleem Mandviwala, Senator Lt Gen. (r) Abdul Qayyum, Honorary Consul General Colombia Senator Shibli Faraz, MNA Pervaiz Malik, MNA Daniyal Aziz and Mehnaz Aziz, Additional Secretary (United Nations and EC) Tasnim Aslam; the High Commissioner of Australia Margaret Anne Adamson, Ambassador of the Republic of Cuba Jesús Zenén Buergo and Dulce Buegro, Ambassador of Hungary Istvan Szabo and Emilia Szabo, High Commissioner of India T.C.A Raghavan and Ranjana Raghavan, Ambassador of the Republic of Korea Jong Hwan Song and spouse and Honorary Consul of Peru, Ambassador Tarik Afridi and Cristina Afridi. Other guests included political entities, both in government or out of it and members of civil society.
A downpour that was not predicted saw the tables being moved indoors which was not as nice as being 'under one roof,' as they say -- the lawn had been covered by a canopy -- but the arrangement turned out okay. This time around the tables had been named after flowers instead of countries and the guests were seated as originally planned.
Addressing his guests the host welcomed the senior members of the government with words of appreciation about their capabilities -- Sartaj Aziz for being so knowledgeable that he could speak on any subject, Raza Rabbani for being the 'father' of the 18th Amendment, Tarik Fatemi for his astute handling of difficult issues and so on. He lauded the diplomatic skills of his guest of honour and his efforts to improve bilateral relations between Italy and Pakistan and wished him all the best for the future. After this he introduced the new ambassadors -- who left their tables and came to stand by him so that everyone could see who they were; said a few words about each of his guests -- which he does so that new envoys know a little about each of them -- concluding by saying he would revive the South American group, which had been dormant for some time and thanking everyone for attending the dinner.
The guest of honour thanked his host and everyone else for being there to wish him, said he had a very interesting time in Pakistan but wished he could have travelled more to visit all the beautiful places in the country and stated that he would definitely return to renew his association with the land and its people, especially the many good friends he had made during the past three years.
After this dessert was served, many guests said their goodbyes and left with a few staying on to enjoy tea or coffee and conversation -- a 'fashion' trend in hairstyles for older men being part of the discussion because a few senior entities are sporting it, for which they got a thumbs up!
