KARACHI: Mushahid edged out Masood by a whisker to claim the latest edition of the Swiss Movement Weekend Team Tournament organised by the Karachi Bridge Associates (KBA) here at the Aslam Bridge Hall, housed in the National Stadium, the other day.
Comprising Anwer Kizilbash, Anis-ur-Rehman, Mushahid Siddiqui and Ameer Hasan, Mushahid won the event by aggregating 74.52 Victory Points (VPs).
Masood, featuring Gulzar Bilal, Rais Ahmed, Ghufran Ashraf, Hamid Mohiuddin and Tanvir Mazahir, were a close second with 72.96 VPs. Attackers, having Zeenat Azwer, Azwer-ul-Haque, Hasan Askari, Mohammad Zubair and Javed Rehman, finished third.
Mushahid began their campaign by outscoring Trailblazer (14.70 VPs) and toppling Starlet (18.59 VPs). They overcame Foxy (16.50 VPs) in the third round but lost the fourth round match to Masood by 9 IMPs, thus adding 6.86 VPs to their score.
In the last match, Mushahid thrashed Attackers (18.77 VPs).
Masood remained undefeated in all five games but their aggregate of 72.96 VPs was fractionally below Mushahid whom they beat in the penultimate round.
Masood played consistently throughout the day as they registered victories over all their rivals: Starlet (14.29 VPs), Attackers 16.37 (VPs), Trailblazer (16.27 VPs), Mushahid (13.14 VPs) and Foxy (12.18 VPs).
Meanwhile, the duo of Anwer Gheewala and Noor Alam left others stone cold and topped with a handsome score of 64.87 percent. They were followed by Hamed Mohiuddin-Hasan Askari (60.57 percent) and Zafar Zaki-Ghaffar Qureshi (60.20 percent). The pairs contest was conducted on Mitchell Movement basis.
