Cash award approved for teams which dug out NLC, necklace scandals

ISLAMABAD: In line with his policy of reward and punishment, Auditor General of Pakistan (AGP) Rana Asad Amin has rewarded those audit teams which had dug out mega corruption scandals in different government departments.
Mr. Amin has approved the grant of honorarium equal to one-month pay to supervisory officers and two-month salary to the audit team which had indicated Rs1.8 billion loss caused by the NLC by making an imprudent investment in the stock exchange in violation of the Prime Minister’s instructions.
It was on the basis of an audit para that the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) had recommended action against the officers responsible for the Rs1.8 billion loss to the NLC.
Consequently, Army Chief General Raheel Sharif recently imposed penalties on two senior uniformed officers.
A few days back, the AGP had also sanctioned honorarium equal to one-month pay for supervisory officers and two-month pay for the audit team which had indicated the theft of a necklace donated by the wife of Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdo?an for the flood victims.
Rather than auctioning the necklace off, the previous PPP government had sold it to the Nadra for Rs1.5 million.
The case was reported by the Auditor General in the Nadra audit report for the years 2010-11 to 2012-13.
Appreciating the efforts of audit officers and staff for contributing to public accountability and pointing out losses to the public exchequer, the AGP desired that every auditor of the department should work with the same zeal and dedication.
