Punjab Board of Investment and Trade (PBIT) and Turkish officials discussed the modalities of a symposium on improving economic relations between Turkey and Pakistan in Lahore on November this year.
The modalities were discussed in a meeting chaired by Punjab Industries Minister Ch Muhammad Shafique on Monday.
The meeting was followed by a brief protocol signing ceremony which was signed by the minister and Prof Dr Ahmet Incekara, President Economic Research Foundation Turkey.
PBIT CEO Habib-ur-Rehman Gilani and Haroon Shaukat, Head of Turkey cell PBIT, were present on this occasion.
The Turkish five-member delegation was comprised of Prof Dr Ahmet Incekara, President Economic Research Foundation Turkey, Nahit Ozen, Secretary General, Rashid Mansur, Honorary Consul General of the Republic of Turkey, Bilal Sheikh, Social Media Manager, Bashir Baksh.
The aim of project is to carry out economic and social research to enhance the economic cooperation and create awareness between Turkey and Pakistan regarding various investment opportunities. It aims to inform the entrepreneurs about the developments in the business sectors and investment possibilities in these countries.
This symposium will also help the administrators of the public and private sectors to share their opinions and experience, and future plans with the entrepreneurs.
Economic Research Foundation (ERF) is a Turkish organisation similar to Punjab Board of Investment and Trade that works for trade and investment promotion of Turkey globally.
Tevta: Technical Education and Vocational Training Authority (TEVTA) Chairperson Irfan Qaiser Sheikh has said the authority has started world’s sixth and Pakistan’s first online Skilled Labour Market Information System (SLMIS).
Chairing the meeting on Monday, he said TEVTA pass-outs could submit their particulars for SLMIS adding the system was providing key information on Punjab’s labour market including market trends, skill training opportunities in different trades and technologies, data of passing-out students and job seekers as well as vacancies for technical persons in the industry.
Irfan Qaiser Sheikh said the facility of free registration was available for all the students of technical and vocational institutes, job-seekers and employers on this web portal so that unemployed skilled youth might find suitable job opportunities. This web portal will also provide information on employment and unemployment rates in different sectors of the industry besides other useful economic data. At present, UK, Korea, Malaysia, Philippines and Sri Lanka are using labour market information systems. All these systems have been studied in development of SLMIS by Punjab TEVTA, he added.
Chairperson TEVTA further said the labor market information of Punjab was consolidated at TEVTA Secretariat in coordination with its district level offices. Such initiatives by TEVTA will help reduce unemployment in the fight against poverty and enable the skilled youth of Punjab to contribute towards socio-economic development of the country, he concluded.
