Steps against smog reviewed

LAHORE:Punjab Environment Protection Minister Muhammad Rizwan chaired a departmental meeting at committee room of Environment Protection Department (EPD) here on Thursday to review a two-month report on anti-smog steps in the city.

DO Ali Aijaz told the minister that the department sealed 104 industrial units in Wagah Town, served 94 notices and registered FIRs against 28 people, sealed 68 units sealed in Ravi Town, served 51 notices and registered FIRs against 30 people, sealed 64 units in Shalimar Town, served 79 notices and registered FIRs against 20, sealed 40 units in DGB Town, served 23 notices and registered FIRs against 16 people, sealed 46 units in Gulberg Town, served 14 notices and lodged 18 FIRs and sealed 21 units in Allama Iqbal Town and served 6 notices.

He also presented a report on inspection of brick kilns. He told the minster that in two months 321 brick kilns were inspected visited by EPA’s staff, 108 kilns sealed stopped from operation over old technology, 41 notices issued, 65 kilns allowed for operating through zigzag technology and 21 FIRs lodged against violation. He also presented a report on traffic challenging campaign by EPA. Over 18,576 vehicle were checked in various places of Lahore, violation stickers were issued to 1,571 vehicles and 27 vehicles impounded.
