Lawyers’ violence shameful: Aitzaz Ahsan
Aitzaz Ahsan said the lawyers are destroying defaming the legal fraternity and my head is bowed with shame. They shouldn’t be allowed to contest the polls, nor should anyone vote for them.
LAHORE: PPP leader and senior lawyer, Aitzaz Ahsan, denounced lawyers who wreaked havoc at the Punjab Institute of Cardiology (PIC).
Speaking to a local news outlet, he termed lawyers’ violence a “shameful” act, adding that there were many lawyers among the protesters who would be contesting elections in January. “They are destroying defaming the legal fraternity and my head is bowed with shame. They shouldn’t be allowed to contest the polls, nor should anyone vote for them,” he added.
Senior lawyer Babar Sattar tweeted: “Lawyers’ attack on PIC is abhorrent & it isn’t the 1st such incident. Those involved & easily identifiable must be prosecuted to the fullest extent of law. Our bar leaders must call for their licenses to be suspended.”
Barrister Asad Rahim Khan said, “Hospitals are untouchable, even in war. Lawyers who partake in the violence – attacking patients, disrupting heart surgery, letting people die – should be in jail. There is no other angle to view this from.”
