This refers to the article, ‘Broken promises’ (December 11) by Mohammad Zubair. The writer has rightly criticized government for not meeting a single promise but failed to mention the mess left behind by the previous two governments. It was due to the incompetent team of PTI that the current government failed to collect a complete picture of the miseries left behind – and hence made tall claims. But what surprises everybody is the controllable expenditure being spent on huge cabinet and making a mockery of austerity the drive. While recounting the promises made and predicting future failure, the writer has not come up with suggestions on how to get over the difficult situation.
It is incorrect to suggest that no ‘tabdeeli’ shall take place in the next 45 months. There is an immediate need to overhaul the current accountability system of rulers and mechanism to ensure that the poor are given the right to live freely; they cannot wait any longer for jobs and housing schemes built in the air just to get votes. A provision must exist in the constitution that any government that fails to honor its commitment loses the right to govern within a specified period
