Wapda rout Customs to annex National Junior Hockey title
LAHORE: Wapda Sunday won the National Junior Hockey Champion 2019 title in after a one-sided final here at the National Hockey Stadium.
Wapda overpowered Customs all ends in the final to hit 5-0 win while Sui Southern Gas Company defeated Punjab A in the third position to reach the victory stand. The good number of crowd was there to watch the final match between Wapda and Customs.
In the ninth minute of the game, Wapda’s Abrar Hussain gave his team the lead with a field goal. In the 23rd minute Yasser scored the field goal and by the end of the interval, Wapda was leading by two goals to nil. In the third third quarter, Hamad Anjum scored a brilliant goal to make it 3-0. The Customs team left high and dry after conceding three goals.
Wapda team scored two more goals in the fourth quarter to win the match by 5-0.Earlier, in a third-position match played between Sui Southern Gas Company and Punjab A’s teams, the former turned out to be the winner. After a two-goal match between the two teams in the stipulated time, Sui Gas team successfully reached the victory stand with 4-2 difference on the penalty shoot-out. The award for the best player of the tournament went came to Punjab A’s Umair. The guest of honor for the tournament’s closing ceremony was Pakistan Hockey Federation President Brigadier (retd Khalid Sajjad Khokhar and former President PHF Olympian Akhtar Rasool, who distributed prizes among the players.
National Selection Committee Chairman Manzoor Junior members were also present on the occasion, including Khalid Hameed, Wasim Feroz and Qasim Khan, who reviewed the performance of the players in all the tournaments, including the finals.
