Slain woman laid to rest in Nowshera

NOWSHERA: A British woman citizen of Pakistani origin who had been shot dead a day earlier was laid to rest at Saleh Khana area of the Nowshera district on Friday as the police claimed to make progress in the murder case.

An unidentified gunman had shot dead a woman in Amangarh locality in the limits of Azakhel Police Station on Thursday. Lodging a preliminary report, Bilal Khan, son of Dad Khan, told the police that he, his mother Murad Begum, aunt Muhammada Begum, wife of Zareef Khan, and maid Sher Bano, wife of Noor Badshah, residents of Saleh Khana had gone to a relative, Nawab Ali, son of Said Jalal, in Amangarh to invite him to a wedding. He said that an unidentified armed man appeared on the road as they reached Khalil Koroona while returning home and opened fire on his mother, leaving her dead on the spot. He said he and the other two women escaped unhurt. Bilal Khan said that his family lived in the United Kingdom and had recently arrived in Pakistan to attend a wedding ceremony. He said the family had no enmity. District Police Officer Kashif Zulfiqar constituted a team headed by DSP Khalid Khan to probe the case. It was learnt that the probe team visited the spot and recovered three empties from the site. Three bullets had been fired at the car (LED-8570). The police officials said the evidence was being collected using the scientific methods. They said clue had been found to the culprits who would be arrested soon.
