Groundbreaking ceremony held for sunken patio at KTH

PESHAWAR: The groundbreaking ceremony of the sunken patio for the under-construction basement at the Khyber Teaching Hospital was carried out by Board of Governors (BoG) member Prof Dr Shahjehan here on Wednesday.

He was accompanied by Hospital Director Dr Zafar Afridi, Medical Director Prof Dr Irshad Ahmed, Chairman, Medicine Dept, Prof Dr Muhammad Humayun, Chairman, Anaesthesia Dept, Prof Dr Parhaizgar, Chairman, ENT Dept, Prof Dr Arif Reza, Director, Nursing Rehmatullah, Director, Finance, Riaz Ali Khan, Director P&D Shafiullah, faculty members and managerial staff. A press release said on the directives of BoG, Hospital Director Dr Muhammad Zafar Afridi carried out a series of meetings with the consultants and contractor of the renovation project.All the financial liabilities and pendency were cleared by the present management.

At present, the civil work is in full swing in the hospital due to which the groundbreaking ceremony of the sunken patio was made possible. The sunken patio is on both sides of the main entrance to the KTH and has16 wide ramps and 12 stairs. A total of 92 OPDs are under construction in the basement which is near to completion.

All OPDs are of 50,000 sq./ft. with waiting area for more than 500 attendants at a time for all specialities. The basic function of the sunken patio is to provide sunlight, ventilation and access to the basement from the main gate of the KTH. Access to the basement from the main gate is necessary as OPDs have been established in the basement under the renovation, repair, beautification and refurbishment project. At present, the basement has access from three points i.e. one ramp from the casualty side and stairs at two points from the ground floor.
