Official hopes polio to be eradicated from country

MANSEHRA: The government could succeed in eradicating poliovirus completely from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa before December next year if the frontline workers continued their struggle with the current pace, an official said on Tuesday.

“I have no words to admire your hard work in such a far off, inaccessible and high mountainous terrain and if you continue this noble mission with same zeal we could completely eradicate this crippling poliovirus from province in next year,” Abdul Basit, Provincial Polio Coordinator, told the morning assembly of teams before dispatch to respective areas and villages in Judbah area of Torghar district. The four-day second round of case response special anti-polio drive was launched in eight districts of Hazara division, Charsadda and Mohmand on Monday. He said that Torghar was highly sensitive and poliovirus prone as nine positive cases were reported here.

TEACHERS STAGE PROTEST: The teachers on Tuesday took out a rally to protest against non-payment of conveyance allowance by Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government.

“The government has ended conveyance allowance of teachers and we challenged the decision in Service Tribunal and it resorted this allowance for us but the government still reluctant to pay us,” Abdul Salam, the president of All Teachers Association told a rally outside the district account office.

The rally which was taken out from Government Higher Secondary School for Boys culminated outside the district account office. The participants of rally raised slogans in support of their demands.
