DRCs settle 5,273 cases in 10 months

PESHAWAR: The Dispute Resolution Councils received a total of 7,089 cases of which 5,273 were successfully settled during the last 10 months of the current year.

A communique said 1266 cases were referred to other relevant forums for legal action and 550 were under process. The DRCs were first established in Peshawar to bring about a positive change in ‘’Thana culture’’ and ensure prompt settlement of petty disputes amongst the general public. Due to its success, a strong need was felt for replicating it in other areas of the province. The councils were established all over the province in every district and a large number of people are approaching these councils for resolution of their petty disputes. In the last 10 months of the current year, a total of 7089 cases were received by these councils throughout the province. Of these 5273 cases were solved amicably and 1,266 referred to other relevant forums for legal action while 550 are under process. The DRCs during the last 10 months 442 disputes were settled in Peshawar, 979 in Mardan, 169 in Nowshera, 82 in Charsadda, 1135in Swabi, 305 in Swat, 290 in Kohat, 100 in Karak, 84 in Hangu, 91 in Lakki Marwat, 246 in Buner, 537 Upper Dir, 49 in Dir Lower, 3 in Chitral, 148 in Shangla, 3 in Torghar, 118 in Abbottabad, 35 in Haripur, 57 in Mansehra, 32 in Tank, 266 in Bannu and 102 in Dera Ismail Khan. There are four DRCs each in Mardan, Nowshera, Swabi and Swat, three each in Peshawar, Charsadda and Chitral, while in rest of districts of the province one DRC each is functioning.
