Christian Democratic Party (CDP) strongly rejected selection based electoral system of Punjab Local Bodies’ (LB) elections.
These views were expressed by Christian Democratic Party (CDP) Chairman Ben-Hur Yousaf Gill here on Wednesday, says a press release.
He said that ill-intention and double standards of the rulers were evident from the fact that they had accepted former president General (R) Pervez Musharraf’s electoral system of general election which was imposed on the non-Muslims (religious minorities) of Pakistan whereas, they had rejected the Local Bodies Electoral System of former dictator. He said, “We demand election not selection on the reserved seats for Non-Muslim (religious minorities).”
The CDP vehemently condemned the exercise to impose selection not election on the reserved seats for minorities, women, labourer and youth in the local bodies election. He said that it was aimed at alienation the religious minorities politically through this electoral system of the LB election in Punjab.
Ben-Hur said, “The current electoral system of LB election is in conflict with the Article 140-A and a grave violation of Article 226 of the Constitution.”
The policies of the government proved that the rulers intended to keep the patriotic, unprivileged and peaceful religious minorities as their political and social slaves while marginalising the society at large, he said.
He said that the CDP would never allow the rulers to snatch away the constitutional rights of the religious minorities of electing their own representatives.
