Pakistan is a rapidly progressing nation and we want to make it much more vibrant in the field of science and research. Horizon 2020 would provide 300-400 million euros research funds to the Pakistani researchers for assistance in their respective research projects.
These views were expressed by the acting head of Delegation of European Union in Pakistan, Steafano Gatto, at an awareness seminar on Horizon 2020, jointly organised by the European Union Delegation to Pakistan, Pakistan Science Foundation and the Karachi University.
On the occasion, the vice chancellor, Karachi University, Professor Dr M Qaiser appreciated the event and said, “Research is the future of mankind and solutions of all the societal problems are hidden in research and scholarly work.” The research grant from the European Union would assist researchers and will provide uncounted opportunities of sustainable development in the field of science and technology in Pakistan, he added.
Chairman Pakistan Science Foundation Professor Dr M. Ashraf, informed the participants that the PSF was founded in 1973 and since its inception the department is providing funding to the research institutions of Pakistan. “The basic aim of the PSF is to promote and popularise science. Science and technology is the key to development in every walk of life,” Dr Ashraf said.
