A four-member committee headed by East Zone Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Amir Farooqui, which was constituted to inquire into the recording and circulation of arrested alleged target killer of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement Yousuf Thelewala’s video statement, has prepared its report that will be submitted by Sindh Inspector General of Police (IGP) Dr Syed Kaleem Imam to Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah today (Monday).

The alleged MQM activist believed to have been involved in 96 target killings and whose arrest was disclosed by the District East police at a news conference on Wednesday had claimed links with the CM in the circulated video.

On Thursday, the CM offered clarification over the allegations leveled by the suspect against him and said neither did he know Yousuf, alias Thelewala, nor had he ever met him but under a preplanned conspiracy a “spoon-fed statement” of the accused was recorded on a mobile phone in which the suspect had taken his name.

Shah also ordered the IGP to conduct an inquiry into the matter, after which Additional IG Karachi Ghulam Nabi Memon formed the four-member committee, comprising DIG Farooqui, Special Investigation Unit SSP Nouman Siddiqui, Investigation West-II SP Tariq Nawaz and Investigation East-I SP Irfan Zaman.
