‘Iqbal promoted critical thinking’

Islamabad :The Department of Urdu (female campus) of the International Islamic University (IIU) on Thursday organised a one-day seminar on ‘Iqbal and Youth.’

The event was attended by Professor Dr. Jalil Aali as the chief guest, who discussed the message of Poet of the East Dr Allama Muhammad Iqbal in the contemporary context.

He also highlighted the religious aspects of the teachings of Iqbal.

It was also addressed by former IG Police, Punjab, and columnist Zulfiqar Ahmed Cheema, who termed Iqbal’s thoughts as a pivotal source of critical thinking and maturity among youth.

IIU President Dr. Ahmed Yousif Al-Draiweesh who chaired the program said in his speech that Iqbal’s works have a message for Muslims that they will never be down if they follow the teachings of Islam. He also spoke on the Arabic poetry of Iqbal and said his works cannot be confined to the subcontinent as he was a philosopher and poet for the whole Muslim world.

Professor Dr. Najeeb Arif, organiser and chairperson at the Department of Urdu, elaborated the objectives of the programme.

She reiterated her resolve that the department will keep arranging such activities in the future. The programme was also attended Chairman Department of Urdu at male campus Dr. Aziz Ibn ul Hassan, Dr. Sadia Tahir, Dr. Ghulam Fareeda, Dr. Sheeraz Fazal Dad, Dr. Sabahat Mushtaq and male and female students of the department.
