Rawalpindi:On the directives of Punjab Chief Minister Usman Bazaar, city district government, Rawalpindi has established five ‘Kisan Platforms’ in different localities, where vegetables will be sold at low prices as compared to main vegetable markets. Farmers will bring vegetables directly in ‘Kisan Bazaars’ to auction and sell at low rates.

The step has been taken to break the monopoly of wholesale-dealers in the markets, as they purchase vegetables from the farmers at low prices but sell at high prices. The wholesale dealers set prices according to their will at the time of auction.

Initially, the local management has set up five ‘Kisan Platform’ at Shamsabad, Chur, Committee Chowk, Haidri Chowk and Gulzar-e-Quaid. The Official Spokesman of Deputy Commissioner (DC), Rawalpindi Muhammad Asim told ‘The News’ that we have decided to establish five ‘Kisan Platform’, where public could buy vegetables at lower prices, and such set-up would be increased with the passage of time, he said. We will provide all facilities to the farmers for selling directly to the consumers instead of going to the markets.

He also said that Shamsabad Kisan Platform and Chur Kisan Platform are operational, while other three ‘Kisan Platform’ will start from Tuesday (today). Meanwhile, Secretary Cooperatives (Punjab) Mansoor Qadir along with Commissioner, Deputy Commissioner and higher officers of agriculture department visited ‘Shamsabad Kisan Platform’ on Monday and showed complete satisfaction on the occasion.
