DAGGAR: Five persons, including four members of a family, were killed as rivals clashed in the limits of Gulbandi Police Station in the Buner district on Wednesday.
The sources said that a family was heading to the bus terminal in a pickup truck (SH-3613) to see off a newly married couple in Swari when their rivals intercepted the pickup near Dang Kohay Chaghorzi. They allegedly dragged the occupants out of the pickup one by one and sprayed them with bullets.
They said Noorul Hadi, Umar Rahman, Mohammad Rahim and Bakht Zamin died on the spot while Ghulam Rahim, Sadiq Zaman, Anwar Ali and eight-year-old Chand Bibi of Naskoo village in Shangla district sustained injuries. The sources said that one of the attackers Dilawar Khan was also killed during the exchange of fire.
The police claimed arresting one of the accused Sakhi Bahadur and a Kalashnikov and a pistol were also recovered from him. The bodies and injured were shifted to the District Headquarters Hospital in Daggar where from one of the injured Anwar Ali was shifted to the Lady Reading Hospital in Peshawar due to his precarious condition.
The motive behind this tragic incident was stated to be an old rivalry between the families. The police registered the case and started investigation. It was learnt the two families had enmity which was later resolved by a jirga of elders from the Torghar district.
