WB team meets PEF high-ups

LAHORE: A delegation of the World Bank headed by task team leader Ms Scherezad Latif held a meeting with Punjab Education Foundation (PEF) high-ups on Tuesday.
On this occasion, WB Consultant Ms Varda Malik gave a presentation about “scoping study of public-private partnership in school education.” Speaking on the occasion, PEF Chairman Engr Qamar-ul-Islam Raja said PEF was the best example of public-private partnership in education sector as it had strengthened low-cost private schools through beneficial free education models.
Special Secretary (Schools) Ahmad Ali Kamboh, Managing Director PEF Dr Aneela Salman, Deputy MD Salman Anwar Malik, Programme Directors and other officials also attended the meeting.
Engr Qamar-ul-Islam further said PEF had also encouraged the deprived parents for sending their children to PEF partner schools as well as helping the low-cost schools to improve their quality of education. He added that improving access to education and provision of quality education to the needy communities were two important achievements of the foundation which was vigorously working to help achieve the targets of “Parho Punjab-Barho Punjab”. He stressed that PEF would enroll 2.8 million students, mostly out of school/dropouts by 2018.
Dr Aneela Salman said PEF was working in all the 36 districts of Punjab through a network of 5,000 partner schools helping the private sector to promote free schooling in remote areas. Ahmad Ali briefed about the agenda of schools’ development through the platform of school councils who were authorised to take different steps for schools’ improvement.
