Manmade disaster

Floods in our country are not a natural calamity. The destruction wrought by raging floodwaters is manmade because every year in the months of July and August we know that it will rain but no plans are made to cope with the situation.
It is time we set aside the Kalabagh Dam controversy and devoted all our efforts towards rescuing people. Those affected by floods cannot afford any complacency on the pretext that since the Kalabagh Dan has not been built, people have been destined to face devastation. It is the need of the hour to devise strategies – other than advocating the Kalabagh Dam – for the betterment of our country.
