According to media reports, K-Electric has denied any role in the deaths of hundreds of people during Ramazan while replying to a four-member fact-finding Senate committee formed recently to dig into the causes of power breakdowns in Karachi. The preliminary report just released has shown what people have been saying all along: K-Electric has not been paying any attention to the distribution and transmission system.
This does not come as a surprise. In recent days we have heard that K-Electric is replacing copper fittings of transmitters with aluminium wires. Now this is a sure path to disaster because aluminium gadgets are much less durable and cannot stand heat. In this situation more instead of less power cuts are to be expected.
