The recent results of two government high schools for boys and girls in the Mardan Board in Panjpir which are located hardly at a distance of two kilometres from the Swabi DEO’s office speaks volumes of ‘change’ in the education sector in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
In the boys section, all candidates appeared in the arts group of the ninth class examination could not pass even a single subject while only six students out of 104 in the science group managed to pass the examination. Moreover, only two out of 78 students in the girls section appeared in the arts group could pass the ninth class examination. These are the worst results in the history of both the schools. At an emergency village council meeting (jirga) convened to discuss the state of affairs revealed that both the schools had been without principals for a long time. Therefore, the majority of teachers were least bothered about attending classes with the result that the syllabus remained incomplete. None of the supervising staff bothered to inspect the efficiency of teachers and working of these schools. The authories concerned are requested to immediately post principals to these schools and take disciplinary action against teachers who wilfully derelicted on their duties.
