Though the official Eid holidays were over on last Wednesday, government offices in the capital city returned to normal five days later on Monday.
The reason was that most of their employees resumed duty at the end of the self-planned extended Eid celebrations.
The government had announced Eid holidays from Friday (July 17) to Tuesday (July 21). However, most employees of government organisations took three additional holidays on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday before the weekend to enjoy the festival marking the end of Ramazan, the month of fasting.
In this way, they stayed away from job for 10 long days.
Majority of such officials had gone to hometowns to celebrate Eid, while the rest opted to go to tourist resorts, especially Murree, Abbottabad, Swat and parts of Azad Jammu and Kashmir, after Eid days.
On last Wednesday, the first day after official Eid holidays were over, the government offices in the city wore quite a deserted look.
However, on Monday, things were normal there with staff members disposing of routine and pending work.
However, some were seen chatting away about their Eid holidays.
“I feel quite refreshed after spending the prolonged Eid holidays with family first in hometown and then in Abbottabad. The break was a blessing not only for me but also for family, especially children, who had long been pushing me for taking them to some tourist place,” a senior bureaucrat said. However, some officials insisted they needed one or two days to get normal at work.
