PESHAWAR: Eidul Fitr was celebrated in parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Friday with traditional zeal and fervour, following the announcement made by unofficial Ruet-i-Hilal Committee of historic Masjid Qasim Ali Khan.
A large number of people offered Eid prayers at a number of places in the provincial metropolis. However, people residing in cantonment and areas in interior city would offer Eid as per announcement of the Central Ruet-i-Hilal Committee.
Eidul Fitr was also celebrated in Charsadda, Mardan, Swabi, Nowshera, Bannu, Lakki Marwat, Kohat, Hangu and Karak districts.
However, people in Haripur, Abbottabad, Mansehra, Kohistan, Battagarm, Dera Ismail Khan, Swat, Buner, Malakand, Chitral, Lower Dir, Upper Dir and Shangla districts would celebrate the religious festival on the call of the Central Ruet-i-Hilal Committee.
The faithful in tribal areas, including North Waziristan, South Waziristan, Bajaur Agency, Khyber Agency, Mohmand Agency, parts of Orakzai and Kurram Agency offered Eid prayers in their respective areas.
Afghan refugees also celebrated Eid on Friday.Meanwhile, partial Eid was celebrated peacefully amid strict security measures in the provincial capital and other parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Friday.
Heavy contingents of police were deployed outside mosques, shopping centres and public places on the Chand Raat and the first day of the local Eid. The inner city, Saddar Bazaar and University Road were the areas that witnessed upgraded security with deployment of heavy contingents of cops supported by intelligence officials, policewomen.
No untoward incident was reported from any part of Peshawar or other districts on the first day of Eidul Fitr.UoP holds gathering for students from abroad, far-flung areas: The University of Peshawar (UoP) arranged a special gathering for its students from abroad and far-flung areas after Eid prayers at the varsity’s guesthouse on Friday.
The students belonging to Yemen, Indonesia, South Korea, the United Arab Emirates and Chitral, Gilgit-Baltistan, Kurram Agency and North Waziristan attended the function. UoP Vice-Chancellor Dr Mohammad Rasul Jan, Public Service Commission member Dr Farooq Swati, Pakistan Study Centre Director Dr Fakhrul Islam and others were also present.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr Rasul Jan said, “I prefer spending more time with you on Eid day than my family to let you know that we value sharing the festive moments of Eid together at a time when you are far away from home in the quest for education.”
He added the students of the university were the ambassador of this greatest seat of learning. The vice-chancellor said that foreign students should help convey the real image of our people and area to the whole world.
