LAHORE
The groundbreaking of the Punjab government’s first “Shehr-e-Khamoshaan” in the series of graveyard reform programme of Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif was conducted by Khawaja Ahmad Hassan, Adviser to chief minister, in Kahna, Lahore here Tuesday.
Khawaja Ahmad Hassan has said that burial with respect is the vision of the chief minister and today is the day when practical step has been taken to achieve that vision. He said that such model graveyard would be built in every corner of Lahore to share citizens grief and make their arrangements on such gloomy circumstances easier.
Shehr-e-Khamoshan is a project of CM’s Special Monitoring Unit (law and order) along with CDGL. It will provide all services to give a hassle-free burial experience to the aggrieved families. The services will include toll-free helpline, hearse service, shuttle service, mortuary for preserving the body, bathing house and funeral prayers place/janazgah.
The architect and land for the project have been finalised and the PHA is responsible for executing the plan. The project is proposed to be completed by December 2015. Site for future graveyards in Multan, Sargodha, Faisalabad and Rawalpindi have also been identified and further selection of suitable sites in Lahore is also under process. A committee formed by the chief minister and headed by Khawaja Ahmad Hassan has been tasked to complete these projects.
