This refers to the news report, ‘Agony as Pakistan fail to make cut for Rio Olympics’ (July 4). Hockey should be handed over to a foreign coach. The last time we won a World Cup we won it under a foreign coach – the redoubtable Hans Jorritsma from the Netherlands. Our pot-bellied coaches like Shahnaz Shiekh have done fat good to Pakistan’s hockey cause.
The government should dissolve the PHF and appoint the best available foreign coach forthwith. An interim hockey council should be formed to run the PHF’s affairs directly under the prime minister comprising best administrators, sports strategists and foreign experts, including sports psychologists. The time for half measures is over.
