AIOU to adopt new system for payment to around 70,000 tutors

Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU) will soon switch over to a new money-transaction system for payment of tuition fee to around 70,000 tutors across the country, through wallet or credit card.
Gradually, the same facility will also be available to its thousands of pensioners. To formally launch the system, a MoU will be signed with a Commercial Bank this month, this was announced by Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Shahid Siddiqui while addressing an Iftar-reception held last night at the university’s main campus. The reception was jointly organised by Academic Staff Association (ASA) and Officers Welfare Association (OWA).
Under the new system, tutors’ dues will be credited to the allotted card for encashment at ATM. The card will be issued to each one separately and he or she will be informed in advance about their dues through text message.
The relevant Bank will carry out the money transaction process through a separate arrangement. The tutors will able to apply for the Mobile Wallet either through phone; internet or face-to-face.
The credit card facility will also be available to resource persons all over the country. Dr. Shahid Siddiqui said the new system will save the tutors from botheration of collecting, depositing cheques, and going to bank branch for withdrawal of cash through cheques.
Complaints of loss/misplacing of cheuqes will get eliminated. The new system will also save time of preparation of cheques, cost of cheque, courier charges and corresponding overhead cost.
The vice chancellor said that the university was also taking a number of other initiatives to reform various students and teachers-related services. Some new academic programmes are also going to be announced soon. Special focus is being laid on the welfare of the university’s officers and employees.
Dr. Siddiqui said quality education, faculty development and research-oriented programmes will be the priority areas in his future efforts of upgrading the status and image of this mega university. He hoped that newly promoted and recruited staff will render best possible services to serve the students’ cause and make this University a model one in education sector.
