VCs asked to strictly monitor hostels

Provincial Minister for Home Col.(R) Shuja Khanzada has directed the vice-chancellors of all universities of the province to ensure strict monitoring of hostels and point out those persons who are not students but staying at the hostels.
He said the monitoring of the persons visiting hostels frequently for meeting students should also be undertaken.
He said this while presiding over a meeting of vice-chancellors of all universities of Punjab at the Darbar Hall at Civil Secretariat on Tuesday. Secretary home, inspector general police, secretary higher education besides senior officers of the Counter Terrorism Force and other officials concerned were also present.
The minister directed that only such professors should be called to deliver lectures to students who were uncontroversial and had no link with any banned organisation.
He stressed the university authorities to invite guests only after security clearance and immediately contact the Counter Terrorism Force in case of any suspicious activity.
Col (R) Shuja Khanzada directed that the mosques on the premises of universities should be closely monitored and no one should be allowed to stay in the mosques during the night.
He said if any faculty member belonged to a party which had extremist views or a banned organisation, he should be immediately pointed out and the Counter Terrorism Department should be informed about any suspicious activity or unusual situation at toll free No.0800-11111.
He said the name of the person giving information would be kept secret. He further said that regional heads of the Counter Terrorism Force would soon contact the vice-chancellors to have their all-out cooperation.
The home minister added that reports had been received about some miscreants in the garb of Tableegh who wanted to use students of engineering and medical colleges for the achievement of their nefarious designs. He said the war against terrorism was a national cause.
He said the government was following ‘zero tolerance policy’ against the terrorism and extremism.
