The City District Government has assured that the work on construction of dismantled bridge at Nullah Leh near Liaquat Bagh and underpass would be over by July 31.
Talking to ‘The News’ here on Monday, Commissioner Captain (r) Zahid Saeed, who is also acting chairman of the Rawalpindi Development Authority (RDA), said that the work is being carried out by ZKB Company and special instructions have been given to its management to get the work completed by July 31, which is also its scheduled deadline.
He said that work on one side of underpass i.e. from Liaquat Bagh to Tipu Road via Moti Mahal Chowk has already been completed while the task of other side would also be over in one month.
To a question, Zahid Saeed said that work on this component of the Metro Bus Project is being closely monitored by him and Chairman of the Implementation Sub Committee MBP Hanif Abbasi. Similarly, Punjab Chief Minister Mohammad Shahbaz Sharif seeks daily report on the two components.
To a query, he agreed that if rains occur with the start of monsoon season work on the two components would certainly be affected to some extent. However, work would not be abandoned during rains and would continue at a rapid pace to meet the deadline of July 31.
He did not agree to a question that there is possibility of any danger to the under construction site of Nullah Leh Bridge if heavy rains occur during Monsoon and if Nullah Leh plays havoc. “All these things were considered while planning the work on this component. The constructed site of underpass would not be affected due to pressure of rainwater during heavy rains.
The commissioner said that with the work on Nullah Leh Bridge construction besides desilting work done by Wasa as well as further widening of both sides of Nullah Leh from Gawalmandi to Liaquat Bagh, the danger of any floods in Nullah Leh during rains has diminished.
“All the credit goes to the Punjab government for solving many problems including traffic, good and improved transport and Nullah Leh widening,” he added.
Replying to yet another question, the commissioner said that work on Peshawar Morr Interchange Link is also being carried on at a fast note and it would also be completed at the shortest span of time. The enforcement of MBP has made Rawalpindi a model city in terms of development and beautification, Zahid Saeed claimed.
