The province of Sindh it seems has gone back into the dark ages. If a large number of people could die of a heatwave in a city like Karachi one can imagine the plight of poverty-stricken people in the rest of the province. The 10 to 16 hours-long loadshedding coupled with high temperatures during the past one week has taken quite a toll on people’s lives.
There were people dying of heat in the open skies and those who were in critical condition in hospitals due to prolonged power outages. One can understand that heatstroke is one of the ravages of nature but the loadshedding problem isn’t an insurmountable task. It can be sorted out if corrective measures are taken. The abysmal situation shows the level of apathy of our ruling class.
