Jamaat-i-Islami Ameer Senator Sirajul Haq has blamed government’s incompetence and mismanagement for deaths in Karachi during the heatwave and expressed deep sense of grief and sorrow over the human loss.
Addressing a meeting of JI central office-bearers at Mansoora on Thursday, Sirajul Haq said it was unfortunate that the government was trying to satisfy the general public simply through superficial measures. Had the government not wasted billions on the advertisements in the print and electronic media about its so-called achievements and spent necessary funds on power generation, loadshedding could have been controlled to a great extent, he said. Thousands of poor people were dying due to scorching heat and long loadshedding but the rulers were least concerned as their priorities were other than public welfare, he added.
He said the government should have given top priority to electricity generation projects to save the masses from the onslaught of loadshedding. He said rulers were not serious in solving energy crisis and it seemed unlikely that the government would be able to overcome the energy crisis during its term.
Sirajul Haq said political parties which had been taking MQM as their partner in the government during the last three decades and providing it an opportunity to carry on its crimes were also in the dock today. He said thousands of innocent people were gunned down in Karachi during the last thirty years simply because the federal and provincial governments had given Karachi to the target killers, extortionists and thugs as a strategy and policy of reconciliation.
Sirajul Haq said it was unfortunate that the national security institutions had full knowledge of the affairs but no serious steps were taken to check the bloodletting and the deadly game went on under India’s full patronage. He said that the action against the criminals should have been stepped up after Saulat Mirza’s revelations.
He said if the BBC report was false, MQM could approach the court and prove its innocence. He said BBC’s report was also a whipping for those rulers who had been propping up MQM for decades only to prolong their rule, thus pushing Karachi, the economic hub of the country to ruin. He said these ruling parties were equally responsible for the MQM’s crimes and they could not escape divine wrath or public accountability in this regard.
JI chief said the charges of MQM receiving training and arms from India were not new as dozens of people hauled up by the Rangers had already confessed of having received terrorists training from Indian. He said that was high time that the government moved the International Court of Justice against India and apprised the body of New Delhi’s conspiracies to destabilise this country.
