LANDIKOTAL: A committee of local volunteers seized a non-custom-paid car in Daulatkhel area of Mullagori tehsil in Khyber Agency. The tribesmen in Mullagori have formed the committee to help stop smuggling from Afghanistan.
Waheedullah, Sabz Ali, Shakirullah and Arifullah, who are leading the volunteers’ committee, told reporters that they had informed the Mullagori administration officials that smuggling of different goods and vehicles had been taking place in the area every night.
The residents alleged that administration officials of Jamrud and Mullagori were not taking interest to stop the smuggling.“When we failed to seek the administration’s support, we constituted a committee of volunteers to seize non-custom-paid cars coming from Afghanistan,” said Shakirullah.
Sabz Ali said they stopped the smugglers along with their non-custom-paid cars near Noor Khan Kor in Lawara Mena. He said they told the smugglers that they would not be allowed to use the Mullagori route for smuggling. He said several smugglers drove their cars towards Shalman but one of the smugglers, Riaz Shinwari, refused to go back and scuffled with them.
The Mullagori tribesmen alleged that officials in the Jamrud and Mullagori administrations have their share in smuggling of different goods, including non-custom-paid vehicles from and to Afghanistan.
This correspondent made repeated attempts to contact Khyber Agency’s Political Agent and Assistant Political Agent of Jamrud but they did not respond to the phone calls and text messages.
However, Naib Tehsildar Mullagori, Asmatullah Wazir denied the reports. He claimed a few people Tuesday night blocked the road to record their protest against the severe power outages in Mullagori area.
