Man dies, another battles for life as speedy dumper hits motorbike

In yet another tragic road accident involving a heavy vehicle, a man died and another was critically injured in the outskirts of the city on Tuesday.

The incident took place near Manzil Pump within the limits of the Shah Latif police station. The casualties were taken to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre. Reacting to the information, police reached the scene and inquired about the accident.

According to police officials, the accident took place when a speedy dumper hit the two friends riding a motorcycle and 45-year-old Saleem Khan, son of Jan Khan, died on the spot while 35-year-old Hameed Khan, son of Hayat Khan, got critically injured. The dumper driver managed to escape from the scene. A case has been registered and an investigation is underway.

On Sunday, a man and his sister died while the woman’s minor daughter was injured in a road accident in the outskirts of Karachi.

The accident took place near Murad Memon Goth within the limits of the Memon Goth police station. A crowd of people gathered on the spot and broke the windowpanes of a dumper involved in the crash.

A heavy contingent of law enforcers arrived at the scene and dispersed the crowd. According to police officials, the accident occurred when the dumper hit the three when they were near their home. The siblings died on the spot, while the girl suffered minor injuries.

The victims were later identified as 19-year-old Dholan alias Dhola and his sister Kubri, wife of Fida Hussain. According to SHO Raja Tariq, the driver, Hizbullah, was arrested and the dumper impounded.

Labourer electrocuted

A labourer, 30-year-old Siddiq, died of electrocution at a hotel in the Fishery area. Police said the man suffered a fatal electric shock when he was working at the hotel within the limits of the Docks police station. The body was taken to the Civil Hospital from where family members took it away without any medico-legal formalities.
