A seminar “Food Safety: Is Pakistan Eating Healthy?” was organised by University of Veterinary and Animals Sciences (UVAS), Department of Meat Science and Technology and the Department of Dairy Technology of the Lahore in collaboration with Australia Awards Pakistan and Australia Awards Alumni Network (AAAN) on Tuesday.
According to a press release, UVAS Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Talat Naseer Pasha chaired the seminar while Dr Muhammad Junaid, Dr Jamal Nasir and many professionals from public and private sectors and UVAS faculty members were present.
The vice-chancellor focused on Pakistan’s need for strategic policy interventions and an enabling environment for increased food supply, access to food and equity of food distribution.
Dr Muhammad Junaid said public-private partnership in agriculture could introduce innovations to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of research, extension and education services.
Dr Jamal Nasir said such training for technical specialists in agricultural and non-agricultural enterprises would increase people’s access to food.
Meanwhile, UVAS Office of University Advancement and Financial Aid (OUAFA) organised a seminar on Zakat Fund with the theme “Help the Helpless” on the varsity’s city campus. Prof Dr Talat Naseer Pasha and Chairman Department of Islamic Studies GCU Lahore Prof Dr Sultan Shah co-chaired the seminar while Prof Dr Mansoor-ud-Din, Dr Adnan Aslam, Dr Awais Asif, Qaiser Hussain and a large number of students and faculty members attended the seminar. Prof Dr Sultan Shah delivered a lecture on the importance of donations in Islam.
