Pak boxer Waseem starts training in Scotland
KARACHI: Pakistan’s professional boxer Mohammad Waseem on Monday underwent the first training session under the English trainer Danny Vaughan at the MTK Gymnasium in Scotland.
Waseem the other day reached Glasgow to begin his new stint with the world’s renowned company MTK Global.“Yes, I today underwent training for around two and a half hours in the morning and will also train in the evening,” the Quetta-born fighter told ‘The News’ from Glasgow.
Waseem is satisfied with the facilities at the gymnasium and at his residence.“I am really happy as everything is fine here. The trainer Vaughan is a good person. I had been extended good reception at the airport. I have been boarded here at a house which is adjacent to our gym,” Waseem said.
“We are six fighters at the house. I share a room with an English fighter who is yet to come. It’s wonderful to be here and would be looking forward to achieve my goals,” Waseem said. His trainer Vaughan is also excited to have a good fighter in his lot which he is training.
“I’m really excited to be working with Waseem. He’s super-talented and a great addition to my stable,” Vaughan said.“Waseem is an elite fighter so it shows you we’re doing something right here in Glasgow. We’re going to make an assault on a world title with him this year and we can’t wait to get going,” he said.
“He’s swapping Vegas for Glasgow so he’s in for a bit of a shock in terms of the weather but we’ll get straight to work. It’d be nice to regain his WBC ranking belt up again and then go for one of the world titles,” he said.
After turning pro in 2015 Waseem became a rare fighter of the world when he liftedthe World Boxing Council (WBC) world silver flyweight title in 2016. He then defended the same crown at the end of the same year.
Having played nine pro fights he has won eight, losing only a single one when he went down to South Africa’s Moruti Mthalane in the International Boxing Federation (IBF) world title bout in Kula Lumpur last summer.
