Stray bullet kills man

A man died on Saturday after he was hit by a stray bullet hit while he was asleep on the roof of his house in the Ittehad Town area.

The incident took place in Qaimkhani Colony within the limits of the Ittehad Town police station.

The deceased person was identified as 40-year-old Rashid, son of Munib.

According to police officials, the deceased had gone to the roof of his house to sleep because of load-shedding where a stray bullet hit and killed him.

The bullet hit him in his head and he died on the spot.

The body was shifted to Civil Hospital, Karachi where his family took his body away without medico-legal formalities. Police officials said they were investigating the case from different angles. No case has been registered while further investigations are under way.

Extortionist held

The Special Investigation Unit (SIU) of the Karachi police on Saturday arrested the alleged mastermind of a gang involved in extorting millions of rupees from traders through blackmailing them.

The suspect, identified as Nizam, allegedly used to shoot and injure his own accomplices and later threatened traders with registering cases against them for injuring his companions.

SIU officials said he extorted millions of rupees from several traders and lodged some 32 fake cases against traders at various police stations to blackmail them.

He also lodged a fake case against a trader in the SITE area to blackmail him and extort money from him, who later died of cardiac arrest.

According to SIU officials, his gang comprised 10 members, including two women. Cases have been registered against them while further investigations are under way.
