Punjab governor refutes rumour of Buzdar’s removal

TOBA TEK SINGH: Punjab Governor Ch Muhammad Sarwar has said that the government has increased prices of petroleum products after increase in their prices in the international market.

Addressing an annual prize distribution ceremony of Sarwar Foundation School and talking to newsmen at Pirmahal on Thursday, he said that previously there was 17 per cent levy on these products, which now had been reduced to 11 per cent. He refuted the rumour that Chief Minister Sardar Usman Buzdar was being removed and said he (Buzdar) was performing well. He stressed the need of imposing education emergency in the country as there were 20.2 million non-school going children. He claimed that there were 20 to 25 per cent population of the country, who were suffering from hepatitis disease. He announced that Sawar Foundation would conduct screening of 100,000 people till December 31 for detection of hepatitis. He criticised former Punjab governments for their wrong policies regarding construction of water supply schemes worth billions of rupees. He said that most of them were dysfunctional. Similarly, there was a mega water supply scheme for Toba city, which was completed at a cost of Rs 8.5 million, but it was still closed. He announced that the Sarwar Foundation would provide clean water supply in the Punjab to 8 million people.

The governor said that the Sarwar Foundation had so far installed 200 modern water filtration plants in different districts of the province. Sarwar Foundation chief Begum Perveen Sarwar also spoke on the occasion. Sarwar Foundation project director Junaid Subhani, school principal Muhammad Arshad, vice-principal Ms Saima, DC Mohsin Rashid, DPO Sadiq Ali and former MPA Javed Akram were also present.
