PESHAWAR: Qaumi Watan Party (QWP) leader and former senior minister Sikandar Hayat Khan Sherpao on Monday criticised the government for raising the prices of petroleum products, saying it would trigger inflation.

According to a press release, he was addressing a public meeting in connection with the ongoing membership drive of the party at the Lahori Gate locality in the provincial capital.

Urging the party workers to actively participate in the membership drive, he said his party believed in democracy so it regularly held the intra-party election.

Coming down hard on the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI)-led provincial government, Sikandar Sherpao said the rulers lacked the vision and experience to steer the country out of the prevailing crises.

He said the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf leaders had claimed in the election campaign that they would provide relief to the people by creating more jobs and bringing down inflation.

“The PTI government has failed to ensure financial discipline and is thus passing on the burden to the people,” he maintained.

He said the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf government took irrational steps and devalued the rupee against the US dollar, which triggered inflation and weakened the economy.

The Qaumi Watan Party leader alleged the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf government was conspiring to roll back the 18th Constitutional Amendment. “We will resist the bid to undo the amendment,” he declared.
