BNP to part ways with govt if six-point formula ignored

ISLAMABAD: Balochistan National Party (BNP) which is coalition partner in the federal government has warned the Prime Minister that it could part ways even before completion of one year if the six-point formula is shelved.

BNP Chief Sardar Akhtar Mengal had meeting with Prime Minister Imran Khan here at the Prime Minister Office (PMO) on Tuesday and had discussion with him on political situation prevailing in the country and Baluchistan.

The three-member delegation including Sardar Asad Mengal reminded the Prime Minister that six-point formula that provided base for their support to the federal government is being ignored and non-implementation of it is causing disquiet in Baluchsitan and with the BNP.

After lapse of seven months, not a single promise has been fulfilled. Senator Dr Jahanzaib Jamaldini who was part of the delegation told The News/Jang after the meeting that Sardar Akhtar Mengal has told the Prime Minister in categorical terms that if the six-point formula is ignored the way it has been in seven months, they would be constrained to take the matter to the Central Committee of the party for fresh decision.

Dr Jamaldini said that Prime Minister who is also chief of the ruling PTI has promised to constitute a committee in a day or two to negotiate implementation of six-point formula. He said that the initial arrangement was for one year but the way matter is being lingered on, the BNP could review its position even before the expiry of this period.

The issue of missing persons from Baluchistan figured prominently in the meeting. It has been officially stated that during the meeting that they exchanged views on matters pertaining to Balochistan. Prime Minister's Special Assistant Syed Zulfiqar Abbas Bukhari and former captain of Pakistan Cricket Team Javed Miandad called on Prime Minister Imran Khan in Islamabad on Tuesday. They exchanged views on matters of mutual interest.
