All about the dam
While speaking to the National Assembly’s Standing Committee on Water Resources, at Islamabad on March, 19, 2018, Wapda Chairperson Muzammil Hussain said that the government would start civil construction work on the much-awaited Mohmand Dam by next week, as it has started mobilising machinery on site to commence work on this mega project. Also, the land for the dam has been acquired. The dam site has been geologically and hydraulically proved perfectly suitable by top water and dam experts.
It merits a mention that preliminary works have already been commenced by Wapda. The dam will have water storage capacity of 1.29 million acre feet (MAF) and will generate 800 megawatts of cheap electricity. Mohmand Dam is basically a flood control dam and will save Charsadda, Peshawar and Nowshera from floods. The stored water will be used for irrigation purposes and for supply of drinking water to Peshawar and the tribal districts.
